future tense

We're back in civilisation and it's really really really exciting. An unreasonable number of us came down with sensory overload headaches on our first day back in Arusha. We're put up in the swankiest hotel I've ever been in -- it's probably like a four star, and it's ridiculous. At dinner, one of the waiters tucked my chair in for me. The staff also come around to our rooms to do things like "turn down the bed" for us, and bring us all manner of obscenely unnecessary things like jars of complimentary shoe polish. Internet is complimentary, and I'm reveling in the speed with which I can browse. Laundry services are so expensive that I opted to wash all of my clothes (except for an extremely filthy pair of trousers, which I sent to be washed for a sum of $2 or so) in the sink, which took me two hours. They still smell vaguely but uncomfortably like smoke and petting zoo. Maybe I'll hire them washed in Riruta Satellite -- that's what my host family did for laundry, and it worked out quite well.

I need to study for my Swahili oral exam (which is tomorrow morning), and figure out how I'm getting from Arusha to Riruta Satellite on Friday. Oh, and I need to make sandals out of motorbike tyres, Tanzania style, since we've just gotten the materials finally.

Very soon I'll meet up with my parents and go on ANOTHER week of safari. Wild. Maybe this time I'll get to see a leopard -- the only animal I really hoped to see but didn't. (On our last travel day, we saw a cheetah -- from a distance, but still, a cheetah!)

Here's my class schedule for next semester, after a bit of confusion and haggling:

Qualitative Research Methods (SOAN) - TTh 9:40-11:10
Utopias/Distopias (LIT) - TTh 1:50-3:20
Gender in a Cross-Cultural Perspective (GEND) - WF 11:30-1
Intro to Judaism (REL) - MWF 9:10-10:10

Waitlisted:
Yoga - MW 1:50-2:50

And I've no idea where I'll be living on campus.

UPDATE: I'll be living in Stewart with a roommate from Japan (again).
